At Sense of Community, we believe in the power of creativity and skill-building to empower individuals and communities. That’s why we recently organized a workshop specifically designed to assist Iraqi refugees in learning the art of handmade mosaic and other crafts, enabling them to achieve economic independence.
For many Iraqi refugees who have fled their homes due to conflict and persecution, finding stable employment and rebuilding their lives can be a significant challenge. We recognized the need to provide them with practical skills that would not only generate income but also instill a sense of accomplishment and self-sufficiency.
The handmade mosaic workshop was designed to be accessible to individuals with varying levels of artistic experience. Our team of skilled artisans and instructors guided the participants through the process of creating beautiful mosaic pieces using traditional techniques and materials.
Throughout the workshop, participants were introduced to the history and cultural significance of mosaic art. They learned about different types of materials, tools, and techniques used in creating intricate designs. From selecting and cutting tiles to arranging and grouting, every step was carefully explained and demonstrated.
Our instructors encouraged the participants to explore their creativity and express themselves through their artwork. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, we aimed to boost their confidence and help them discover their hidden talents.
Once the participants had gained a solid foundation in mosaic making, we focused on the practical aspects of turning their creations into a source of income. We offered guidance on pricing their artwork, marketing strategies, and connecting with potential buyers and customers.
Through our network of local artisans and small businesses, we facilitated opportunities for the participants to showcase and sell their handmade mosaic pieces. We also organized exhibitions and events where they could display their work to a wider audience, including art enthusiasts, collectors, and tourists.
At Sense of Community, we are committed to supporting vulnerable communities and helping them regain control over their lives. Through initiatives like the handmade mosaic workshop for Iraqi refugees, we aim to provide opportunities for economic independence and personal growth.

Remember, every mosaic created and sold is not just a beautiful piece of art but also a symbol of resilience and the triumph of the human spirit.
